Trump and Sheinbaum Reach Agreement to Pause Tariffs and Enhance Border Security

In a recent development, US President Donald Trump disclosed that he has decided to temporarily halt the tariffs on goods imported from Mexico for a month's duration. This decision came after an amicable discussion with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, where both leaders agreed on several measures to address border security and drug trafficking.

As part of their agreement, Mexico will deploy 10,000 National Guard soldiers to its northern border to specifically tackle the flow of fentanyl and other illicit substances into the United States. Trump took to social media to express his satisfaction with the discussion, noting the commitment to negotiations led by prominent US officials alongside Mexican representatives during this pause period.

President Sheinbaum echoed the sentiment of a productive conversation, highlighting the mutual respect for sovereignty between the nations. This agreement is particularly significant for Mexico, given that a substantial portion of its exports—approximately 80 percent—are sent to the US.
