Asaduddin Owaisi, the Chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), raised alarms on February 4 regarding the introduction of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, urging the government to reconsider its current formulation. He stated that the entire Muslim community has rejected the Bill and warned that enforcing it would infringe upon constitutional rights under Articles 25, 26, and 14, fostering social unrest across the nation.
During his speech in the Lok Sabha, Owaisi articulated his views on the government's ambitions for a 'Viksit Bharat,' suggesting that the current trajectory is reminiscent of the political climate of the '80s and '90s. He declared his determination to protect Waqf properties, firmly stating that they are essential to his faith and identity, and will not yield any part of them.
Additionally, opposition members Kalyan Banerjee and Md. Nadimul Haque voiced their outrage over the removal of significant sections from their dissent notes submitted to the Joint Parliamentary Committee reviewing the Bill. They accused the Chairman of deleting these objections without notifying or consulting them, triggering frustration within the parliamentary proceedings.

His attachment to Waqf properties over the collective good of society is concerning.

Owaisi is clearly misinterpreting the intentions behind the Bill; it's meant to strengthen Waqf properties.

There's nothing wrong with challenging government decisions that could harm communities; we need more leaders like Owaisi!
