Manchester City's Fowler Shines Despite Defeat to Arsenal
Mary Fowler continued her impressive form for Manchester City, scoring two goals in a thrilling 4-3 loss to Arsenal in the Women's Super League (WSL). Despite her efforts, Fowler's double couldn't prevent Arsenal from claiming victory at the Academy Stadium.
The match started chaotically, with Arsenal taking an early lead through Mariona Caldentey after just 42 seconds. Kyra Cooney-Cross then curled in a free-kick for Lotte Wubben-Moy to head home in the eighth minute, putting Arsenal firmly in control.
Fowler responded with a rare headed goal at the far post, expertly nodding home Aoba Fujino's cross from the right. However, Arsenal's former striker Vivianne Miedema equalized five minutes into the second half.
A minute later, Frida Maanum put Arsenal back in front, but their joy was short-lived. Matildas captain Steph Catley was adjudged to have brought down Fujino in the penalty box, gifting City a penalty. Fowler stepped up and calmly converted the spot kick to level the score.
However, Arsenal finished the stronger team. Swedish international Stina Blackstenius latched on to Beth Mead's low cross to seal a deserved win for the visitors.
The result leaves City in fourth place on the WSL standings, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea. Arsenal, meanwhile, sits in third with 27 points. The two teams will face off again on Friday in the Women's League Cup semifinals.

💩 Manchester City are a disgrace to the WSL. They should be relegated.

😠 Can't believe the referee gave City that penalty. It was a dive from Fujino.
