Airport Tug Driver Critically Injured in Collision with Aircraft at O'Hare

A harrowing incident occurred at O'Hare International Airport on Saturday evening, leaving a 64-year-old airport tug truck driver critically injured. The driver was involved in a collision with an Air Wisconsin flight 6181, operating as American Eagle for American Airlines.

The incident took place around 7 p.m. as the aircraft was crossing a runway to approach a gate. The wing of the plane collided with the airport vehicle, causing the tug to overturn and trap the driver underneath.

The driver was rushed to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition with head and lower body injuries. He has since been stabilized, according to police.

No passengers or crew aboard the aircraft were harmed in the incident. Passengers were safely evacuated and transported to the terminal by bus.

Detectives from Area Five are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the event. The flight had originated from Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan.

The driver's identity has not been disclosed and further details are limited.
