In a shocking turn of events, an 81-year-old man disrupted a band event at Pasadena Memorial High School in Texas on Saturday evening, firing a shot and injuring one individual. The incident sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about safety at school events.
According to a statement from Pasadena ISD, the shooter, who had no affiliation with the school or the event, gained access to the high school through a backdoor during a Texas Color Guard Circuit drum line competition. He then proceeded to fire at least one shot from a "small caliber weapon" in a hallway leading to the auditorium, injuring a young man who was not a student but a percussion technical consultant for Angleton High School.
The assailant was quickly apprehended by an alert parent and several bystanders, with the assistance of Pasadena ISD police. Thankfully, all 43 students, two band directors, and the consultant who were present at the event were unharmed and safely returned to Angleton.
The incident has left the community shaken and has prompted questions about how such a security breach could occur. The Pasadena ISD is currently investigating the incident and has assured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of students and staff.

It’s shocking that parents had to take action while security failed to protect our children. Where’s the accountability?
