Fishwick Residents Demand Action as Anti-Social Behaviour Plagues Their Neighbourhood

Residents of Fishwick, Preston, Lancashire, have expressed their frustration with the ongoing issues of anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhood. They have reported witnessing public urination, drug use, and littering, with syringes and condoms often left scattered on the streets. The situation has become so concerning that residents feel intimidated and unsafe in their own community.

Gemima Awake, a 25-year-old resident, described the constant presence of rubbish and the sight of people drinking and using drugs under a bridge as intimidating. Melissa Somers, a mother of a nine-month-old baby, expressed her disappointment with the state of the area, calling it a "shole."

The residents' concerns extend beyond the immediate presence of anti-social behaviour. They have also reported issues with fly-tipping, with unwanted mattresses and rubbish frequently abandoned in the streets. This has led to a growing sense of frustration and a desire for action to be taken.

In response to these concerns, Preston Council is considering implementing a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in the area. This would grant authorities the power to ban street drinking and address other forms of anti-social behaviour that are affecting residents' quality of life. The council spokesperson acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and stated that the PSPO is being considered due to the high number of complaints received.

The residents of Fishwick hope that the implementation of the PSPO will bring about a positive change in their neighbourhood. They are eager to see a reduction in anti-social behaviour and a return to a sense of safety and cleanliness in their community.
