A Conversation with Calley Means on the Failing Healthcare System and Conservative Solutions

A Conversation with Calley Means

In a recent interview on "The Kevin Roberts Show," Calley Means, a former food and pharmaceutical consultant, painted a concerning picture of America's health. He highlighted the rising costs of healthcare alongside a decline in the overall health of Americans, pointing to increasing rates of autism, childhood prediabetes, and other conditions.

The Surprising Connection Between Metabolism and Limitless Health," noted that 50% of teenagers are overweight or obese, and 77% of military-aged Americans are ineligible for service due to health issues. He attributed these problems to the post-World War II period when pharmaceutical companies gained the trust of Americans following the discovery of antibiotics.

"From 1965 on, almost all the focus of the medical system was on chronic," Means explained. "So, it was on medicalizing things like heart disease, diabetes, anxiety, things like this. Today, 95% of medical spending is on chronic conditions."

Means argued that the American healthcare system is not curing chronic conditions but rather ignoring and masking symptoms. This, he believes, is leading to increasing rates of cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune conditions, and more.

"The medical system is failing," Means told Kevin Roberts, president of The Heritage Foundation. "We're the sickest country in the developed world. Our kids are on the verge of, truly, collapse."

Means advocates for "traditionally conservative" solutions to America's health crisis, emphasizing trust in people, unleashing human capital, and promoting growth. The full episode of "The Kevin Roberts Show" delves deeper into these solutions and explores how the COVID-19 pandemic influenced public perception of healthcare. It also examines the Trump administration's initiative to "Make America Healthy Again.

Using military service eligibility as a health indicator is questionable. Many factors besides health can impact that.

I agree that our healthcare system prioritizes symptom management over actual cures.

He's not afraid to challenge the status quo, which is what we need in the healthcare industry.

Calley Means paints a bleak picture, but are we really the sickest country? Need to see more data on this.
