Yang Tengbo, a 50-year-old Chinese businessman, has been identified as the alleged Chinese spy at the center of the latest scandal involving Prince Andrew. He was barred from the UK in 2023 due to national security concerns.

Tengbo, born in 1974, studied in China and worked as a civil servant before moving to the UK in 2002. He earned a master's degree in public administration and public policy at the University of York and founded a Chinese investment consultancy business in 2005.

In 2021, Tengbo was detained under the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act. The Home Office alleged that he worked for the United Front Work Department (UFWD), a secretive arm of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). He was subsequently barred from the UK by then-Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

Tengbo appealed the decision, leading to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission making his case public. The judgment cited evidence suggesting he was a close confidant of Prince Andrew and acted on his behalf with investors in China. He reportedly used this connection to secure invitations to Buckingham Palace and other royal residences.

Tengbo has denied the allegations, stating that he has done nothing wrong and that the description of him as a "spy" is untrue. He claims to be an independent entrepreneur who has dedicated his career to building bridges between British and Chinese businesses.

The case has raised concerns about potential Chinese influence on the British Royal Family and the UK government. It also highlights the challenges of navigating complex geopolitical relationships in an increasingly interconnected world.
