President Donald Trump sparked outrage with his sarcastic response to questions about visiting the site of the deadly Potomac River crash in Washington D.C. When asked about his plans, Trump quipped, "You want me to go swimming?"

This callous remark drew swift condemnation on social media, with many users criticizing the president's lack of empathy and seriousness in the face of such a tragedy. One user wrote, "67 people die under his watch, and he makes a joke? Callous, heartless, completely lacking in empathy on full display because so many other Americans are like this and see no problem with it."

Trump's comments came as he signed an executive order titled "Immediate Assessment of Aviation Safety," following his earlier remarks blaming the crash on Joe Biden and diversity (DEI) programs. He stated, "We want the most competent people. We don't care what race they are. We want the most competent people, especially in those positions."

However, Trump offered no evidence to support his claims and made these statements before any official investigation into the crash had begun. When pressed on why he believed DEI was responsible, he simply responded, "I have common sense."

Meanwhile, recovery efforts continued at the crash site, with over 40 bodies recovered from the Potomac River as of Thursday afternoon. Dive operations were concluded for the day due to daylight and water conditions, with officials believing most accessible victims have been recovered.

The president also mentioned plans to meet with some of the families of the victims, but did not provide details on when these meetings would take place.
