Dominique Pelicot, the man who drugged his then-wife, Gisele, and allowed other men to rape her, is now facing questioning in connection with other cases. Pelicot is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for the horrific sexual abuse of his ex-wife.
Pelicot's lawyer has confirmed that his client will be questioned by an investigating magistrate specializing in cold cases. The rape and murder cases that Pelicot could be questioned about date back to the 1990s.
One case involves Sophie Narme, a property agent who was killed in Paris in 1991. The other case involves the attempted armed rape of another woman with a similar profile in 1999. Pelicot has been under formal investigation for both of these crimes since October 2022.
Gisele Pelicot has become a feminist hero for waiving her right to anonymity and standing up to her abusers in court. Her case has also started to shift social and medical practices in France around drug-facilitated sexual assault.
Women's rights group Solidarite Femmes has reported a clear increase in women reporting suspected cases of "chemical submission" and sexual violence within couples. Doctors failed to identify the drugging and sexual assaults committed against Gisele for years, leading to misdiagnoses and a delay in justice.

The legal system is failing us by allowing such old cases to resurface without new evidence.

Dominique's case is tragic, but let’s not jump to conclusions about the other allegations without concrete evidence.

I'm glad to see these old cases being reopened. The truth needs to come out, no matter how long it takes.

We need to uplift women who bravely share their stories, especially in cases like this.

Gisele is incredibly brave for stepping forward. Her voice matters, and it's time we listen.
