Plane and Helicopter Collide
A devastating mid-air collision between an American Airlines flight and a military helicopter near Washington D.C.'s Ronald Reagan National Airport has left no survivors. The passenger plane, carrying 64 people from Wichita, Kansas, collided with the Army Black Hawk helicopter carrying three around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Emergency crews worked through the night in frigid waters and strong winds, but their efforts have now shifted to a recovery mission. So far, 28 bodies have been recovered – one from the helicopter and 27 from the American Airlines flight.
The impact of the tragedy is deeply felt in Wichita, where a citywide prayer service is planned for Thursday. American Airlines CEO Doug Parker expressed his condolences and support for the families of the victims and crew members.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. The NTSB will lead the probe.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of air travel and the importance of safety protocols. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this horrific accident.
