Outrage in Greece as Toddler Fights for Life After Alleged Abuse
An angry crowd gathered outside a courthouse on the southern Greek island of Crete, demanding justice for a three-year-old boy fighting for his life in a hospital after allegedly being brutally abused. Riot police were deployed to prevent the crowd from confronting the defendants, a 26-year-old woman and her 44-year-old boyfriend, accused of severely beating the woman's young son.
The child's case has sparked outrage across Greece, with media outlets reporting on the extent of his injuries. Doctors treating the boy described the abuse as "unprecedented," noting severe head trauma, multiple injuries to his limbs and torso, and burn marks. The boy remains intubated in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
The defendants, who have been in custody since their arrest, appeared before a prosecutor on Wednesday facing charges of attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm, and exposing a minor to danger. Their identities have not been publicly released in accordance with Greek law.
Police spokeswoman Konstantina Dimoglidou expressed shock at the severity of the case, stating that even experienced officers had never encountered such brutality. The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine the full extent of the abuse and hold the perpetrators accountable.

How can anyone hurt a child? This case demands the attention it’s getting.

The focus should be on supporting the child, not vilifying the individuals before knowing all the facts.
