A powerful storm is sweeping across the United States, bringing a mix of winter weather and heavy rain to different regions. After providing much-needed precipitation to wildfire-ravaged Southern California, the system is now moving eastward, impacting nearly every region and bringing weather changes to over 300 million people.
In the West, the storm has already caused hazardous travel conditions across Colorado and New Mexico. Snowfall in Arizona's Grand Canyon National Park has dusted the landscape, while gusting winds and heavy snowfall have made driving treacherous in the northern mountains of New Mexico.
As the storm moves eastward, it will bring rain to the South, with potential flooding in some areas. From Texas to Kentucky, some areas could see as much as 7 inches of rain, accompanied by wind gusts, hail, and strong winds. There is also a risk of isolated tornadoes.
The storm is expected to continue moving across the South, impacting the Carolinas and the Florida panhandle later this week. Strong to severe thunderstorms are also possible, including hail.
To the north, snow and ice are possible in the Midwest and Northeast by the end of the week. Depending on its track, the storm on Friday may bring snow or a wintry mix as far north as Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland.
