China's Health Authorities to Gather Feedback on Centralized Drug Procurement Program
Following concerns about potential quality risks associated with certain procured drugs, China's National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) announced plans to gather opinions and suggestions on the country's centralized drug procurement program.
The concerns were raised by political advisors and medical experts in Shanghai, prompting the NHSA to send experts to the city on Tuesday. These experts will hear suggestions from the advisors and medical professionals on improving bulk procurement policies and ensuring the quality and efficacy of selected drugs.
The NHSA will also gather feedback from frontline clinical professionals on the use and effectiveness of selected drugs. All opinions and suggestions will then be submitted to drug quality supervision authorities.
China has been actively working to enhance drug affordability through various methods, including bulk procurement and price negotiation programs. These efforts have resulted in significant cost reductions, with 10 rounds of centralized drug procurement and five rounds for high-priced medical consumables completed to date.

I heard some drugs procured through this program weren't effective. What about patients who rely on these medications?

Instead of centralized procurement, let's empower patients and doctors to make informed choices about their medication.

I'm confident the feedback from medical professionals will help refine the program and address potential issues.

Instead of focusing on centralized procurement, shouldn't we be looking for ways to promote competition and innovation in the drug market?

This program has already saved patients a significant amount of money on their medications. It's a step in the right direction.

This program feels rushed and lacks transparency. Where are the guarantees for quality and patient safety?

Centralized procurement can help reduce the financial burden on patients and their families.

This feels like another example of government overreach. Instead of meddling, let the market regulate itself.

I applaud the NHSA for taking these concerns seriously and actively seeking feedback. It shows their commitment to improving the program.
