Jay-Z Fights Back Against Rape Accusation
Rapper Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter is vehemently denying a lawsuit that accuses him and Sean "Diddy" Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl during a Video Music Awards after-party in 2000. In a legal filing, Carter is requesting a federal judge in Manhattan to dismiss the lawsuit and impose financial penalties on Tony Buzbee, the Texas attorney who filed the suit in October.
Carter's legal team argues that the rape claim contains significant inaccuracies that should have prompted Buzbee to drop the lawsuit. They point to inconsistencies in the accuser's story, including her father's claim to NBC News that he has no memory of picking up his daughter from the after-party and driving her home, as described in the lawsuit.
Furthermore, Buzbee has been unable to explain why the accuser, now in her late 30s, told NBC News that she had a conversation with rapper Benji Madden at the after-party, describing his distinctive "The Last Supper" tattoo. Madden later confirmed to NBC that he was touring the Midwest during the VMAs that year.
Carter's legal team emphasizes that these discrepancies are not isolated incidents but rather the result of Buzbee's hasty pursuit of allegations without proper investigation. They are requesting the judge to impose unspecified financial damages and dismiss the lawsuit.
Buzbee, however, maintains that these inconsistencies are simply memory lapses and that the defense is growing increasingly desperate. He asserts that the rules apply to everyone, regardless of their status.
This lawsuit is the latest development in a series of legal battles between Carter, Combs, and Buzbee. The original lawsuit was filed against Combs, his companies, and unnamed accomplices, including "Celebrity A." Carter was identified as Celebrity A when the suit was amended in December.
Since then, Buzbee and Carter have exchanged accusations in public statements and court documents. Buzbee has also filed a separate lawsuit accusing Carter's Roc Nation of attempting to intimidate his law firm and turn his plaintiffs against him.
