Caroline Kennedy, cousin to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., penned a scathing letter warning senators about the danger her relative poses if elected to the position of health and human services secretary. She calls him a "predator" and alleges that he has harmed family members and the parents of sick children.
Kennedy's letter was sent to lawmakers ahead of his confirmation hearing on Wednesday in an attempt to deter his appointment. She claims that his "crusade against vaccination" has served to benefit him financially and that his actions contradict his public statements.
Kennedy alleges that her cousin discouraged parents from vaccinating their children while vaccinating his own children. She also claims that he influenced other members of the Kennedy family "down the path of drug addiction."
Kennedy states that her father, President John F. Kennedy, and her uncle, former US attorney general Robert F. Kennedy, would be "disgusted" by her cousin's actions.
This is not the first time Kennedy has warned the public about her relative's views. She previously told reporters that she believes "Bobby Kennedy's views on vaccines are dangerous."
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is among Trump's most controversial cabinet picks. Even Republican senators that support Trump find his anti-vaccine stance to be questionable. Kennedy can only afford to lose three Republican votes to be confirmed.
