A Decrease in Prevalence
Respiratory infectious disease prevalence across China has decreased, with a notable decline in influenza-like cases. Positivity rates for pathogens like mycoplasma pneumoniae are steadily falling, and other respiratory diseases, including COVID-19, remain at low levels. This information was shared by Mi Feng, a spokesperson for the National Health Commission (NHC), during a press conference on Sunday.
Mi Feng also confirmed that all current respiratory infectious diseases are linked to known pathogens, and there are no new infectious diseases in China.
Public Health Measures and Influenza Vaccination
With the Spring Festival approaching, residents are encouraged to practice good personal hygiene, including frequent handwashing, during this period of increased social interaction. This is especially important given the tradition of family reunions, gatherings, and meals.
According to historical data, the influenza prevalence period in China typically occurs from November to February or March of the following year, coinciding with the winter and spring seasons. As we are currently within this seasonal epidemic period, disease control authorities will maintain close monitoring, as stated by Chen Cao, a researcher at the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, China CDC.
Getting vaccinated against the flu remains crucial, especially for high-risk groups such as the elderly, children, and patients with chronic diseases. Timely vaccination can provide effective protection against infection and reduce the risk of severe illness and complications.

Decreased prevalence doesn't mean eradicated. We need more transparency on the actual number of cases.
