Influencer Vanessa Ho Responds to Misuse of Her Images in Love Scam Case

In the aftermath of Singapore actor Laurence Pang's unfortunate experience with a S$35,000 love scam, Vanessa Ho, a former finalist from Star Search 2019, has come forward with her own story. The 25-year-old influencer disclosed that her pictures were manipulated by the scammers to exploit Pang. Ho learned from a friend that images showcased by a Singaporean news platform called Mothership, reporting on the love scam, bore a resemblance to her own.

Among the images used, one had been taken from a mattress advertisement in which she participated in May 2023, while another stemmed from a lunch outing she shared on social media in November 2023. Initially, Ho accused Mothership of altering her pictures before realizing that their reporting might not have been done with any ill intent. Reflecting on her earlier statements, she subsequently apologized on her Instagram Stories for her accusations, recognizing that Mothership could not have been aware of the misuse of her images. Though she felt that the initial written context was misleading, she expressed gratitude towards the platform for their willingness to correct the issue.

Let’s remember that this isn't just about Ho; it’s about the impact of scams on real people.

This feels like an attempt to gain publicity. Did Ho really need to come forward?

I’m glad Vanessa found out how her images were misused and took the time to address it.

It’s sad that people fall victim to scams, but let’s not make Mothership the scapegoat.

This is just a distraction from the fact that scamming is a serious issue.

Laurence Pang shouldn't have fallen for a scam like that, and neither should Ho be blaming others.
