The German Football League (DFL) is launching a pilot project to enhance transparency in refereeing decisions.
Starting this Saturday, referees will explain their Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decisions to stadium spectators via loudspeakers. This initiative aims to provide fans with a clearer understanding of the decision-making process.
Nine clubs have volunteered to participate in the project, including Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen and leaders Bayern Munich. The public announcement procedure will be featured in five matches this weekend.
The project draws inspiration from the English League Cup's semi-finals earlier this month, where similar announcements were made.
The first match in Germany to feature this procedure will be Fortuna Dusseldorf's home game with SSV Ulm on Saturday. Other participating clubs include Bayern, St Pauli, Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, Freiburg, RB Leipzig, and Greuther Fuerth.

I can't imagine how chaotic the atmosphere will be with referees talking during games.

This won't solve the problems with VAR. It just adds another layer of confusion.

I think this is a great move! Better transparency could lead to more respect for referees.

This feels like an overreaction to past criticisms. Can't we just let the referees do their jobs?

This is just going to draw attention to the mistakes instead of the gameplay.
