During a recent appearance on ABC’s This Week, Tom Homan, who acts as the Trump administration's border czar, conveyed that there will be a consistent rise in mass deportations throughout Trump’s presidency. He affirmed that every week would bring higher numbers as the administration intensifies its efforts against those in the country illegally.
Homan highlighted that the use of military aircraft marks a significant development in the strategy to deport migrants, mentioning that the U.S. has already flown around 150 individuals back to Guatemala. When asked about the ongoing commitment to this approach, he indicated that such operations are expected to be regular occurrences.
His focus on deporting individuals began with those posing public safety and national security threats but signaled that the actions would broaden over time. As arrests increase, he assured that those in the country without legal status would also face deportation, stating that being in the U.S. unlawfully is a violation of the law.
However, Homan acknowledged the challenges posed by limited resources, indicating that while the administration intends to prioritize deportations, it cannot possibly remove every undocumented immigrant due to funding issues. He expressed a desire for more financial resources, explaining that greater funding would enable more efficient operations and a broader reach in the deportation efforts.
In defining what success would look like, Homan mentioned the importance of removing public safety threats and gang members from the country, asserting that a reduction in crime rates associated with illegal immigration would signify achievement for the administration.
