The cease-fires established in Lebanon and Gaza were showing signs of instability as of Sunday. Israeli military presence in southern Lebanon surpassed the 60-day withdrawal deadline that was meant for both Hezbollah and Israeli forces, while allegations emerged that Hamas breached the terms of their agreement in Gaza.
In Lebanon, local authorities reported that on Sunday, at least 15 individuals lost their lives and more than 80 were hurt due to Israeli army actions in the southern region. These incidents occurred as many displaced residents attempted to return to their villages along the border and encountered violence from the Israeli forces.
The cease-fire, enacted in November, had effectively ended a violent conflict between Israel and Hezbollah which lasted for decades. The arrangement required both parties to withdraw, while the Lebanese military and United Nations peacekeepers were intended to establish security. Hopes were high that this agreement could transition into a lasting peace; however, as the deadline elapsed without the requested withdrawal from Israeli forces, there are mounting anxieties regarding a potential extended Israeli presence and renewed conflict with Hezbollah.
In response to the situation, the Israeli military stated that they had discharged "warning shots" when certain individuals approached their units, adding that a number of people were detained and were being interrogated on-site.
