Union Minister Piyush Goyal Hails US Supreme Court Decision on Tahawwur Rana's Extradition
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, has welcomed the US Supreme Court's decision to clear the way for the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, convicted for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, to India.
Goyal, a Mumbaikar himself, recalled the anger and demand for justice that swept the nation after the attacks. He expressed disappointment with the "weakness" shown by the then UPA government in taking strong action against the perpetrators.
He commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts in securing Rana's extradition, calling it a "victory of 140 crore people" and a testament to India's capability to bring any terrorist to justice. He lauded Modi's diplomatic skills and the assistance received from the US in achieving this outcome.
Goyal emphasized that this is a significant step towards delivering justice to Mumbai and a message to anyone who dares to harm India. He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for instilling confidence in the people of Mumbai and ensuring that any future threats will be met with swift and decisive action.
The 26/11 Mumbai attacks, which took place on November 26, 2008, claimed the lives of 174 people, including 20 security personnel and 26 foreigners. Over 300 were injured in the horrific attacks that targeted the Taj Hotel and other locations in Mumbai.
