Mumbai City FC Defeats Mohammedan SC 3-0 in ISL 2024-25
Mumbai City FC (MCFC) secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Mohammedan SC (MSC) at the Mumbai Football Arena in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 on Sunday. The Islanders dominated the match, holding 69.3% of the possession and converting all three of their shots on target. This win propelled Mumbai City FC to fifth place in the standings with 27 points from 17 games.
The first half saw Mumbai City FC dictating the pace of the game. Bipin Singh, the Islanders' captain, had two early opportunities but was unable to convert. Mohammedan SC also had a chance through Franca, but his shot went wide.
The second half started with the same intensity from Mumbai City FC. Chhangte nearly scored in the 46th minute, but his shot hit the woodwork. The breakthrough finally came in the 72nd minute when Gaurav Bora of Mohammedan SC inadvertently headed the ball into his own net.
Mumbai City FC doubled their lead in the 78th minute through Jon Toral, who capitalized on a deflection off Bora. The Islanders sealed the victory in the 87th minute when Thaer Krouma scored from close range after a cross from Chhangte.
Chhangte was the standout performer for Mumbai City FC, completing 26 of his 32 attempted passes, creating two goal-scoring chances, and crossing six times. He also scored a goal and assisted another.
Mumbai City FC will next face East Bengal FC on January 31, while Mohammedan SC will take on Mohun Bagan Super Giant on February 1.
