In a recent incident in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, former MLA Pranav Singh Champion was taken into custody by the Haridwar Police after he reportedly discharged a firearm at the office of Umesh Kumar, the current MLA representing Khanpur. Following the shooting, which occurred in broad daylight, police discovered two bullet holes in the glass window of the office along with several bullet marks on its walls. Champion was initially detained by the Doon police and later transferred to the Haridwar Police for further proceedings.
According to Dehradun Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar, they acted after receiving a viral video that depicted the firing incident. Police officials confirmed that they have taken suo moto cognizance of the matter, stating that those involved will face appropriate legal consequences. Meanwhile, Rani Devrani Singh, the wife of Champion, accused Umesh Kumar of creating a disturbance at her home just prior to the shooting, which triggered the events leading to the fire. A case has been subsequently filed at the Civil Line police station in Roorkee based on her complaint, resulting in further legal action against MLA Umesh Kumar and some of his supporters. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
