In a recent development, the Rupandehi District Court in Nepal ordered the release of Rabi Lamichhane on bail as he faces accusations related to a cooperative scam. Justice Prahladkumar Yogi presided over the case, confirming the bail amount of NRs 10 million, which is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged embezzlement activities involving Lamichhane, a former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.
This latest ruling marks the third time that Lamichhane has been granted bail in connection with cooperative fraud cases across different districts. Previously, the Pokhara District Court allowed his release on a bail amount of NRs 6.5 million, followed by another bail of NRs 6 million from the Kathmandu-based Swarnalakshmi Cooperative case.
The origins of the case trace back to Lamichhane's arrest in October for his involvement in the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case. He was accused of being part of a larger scheme that misappropriated NRs 1.19 billion from depositors across various cooperatives. Investigations point to organized fraudulent activities carried out by Lamichhane and several accomplices, with funds being illicitly redirected to a media company linked to him, the now-defunct Galaxy 4K Television.
Authorities continue to expand their inquiries into cooperative fraud in regions beyond Rupandehi, including Chitwan and Parsa, as they work to uncover the full extent of the financial crimes allegedly committed in a coordinated manner across multiple entities.

This is a witch hunt against Lamichhane. The authorities should focus on catching the real perpetrators of these crimes, not wasting resources on persecuting innocent people.

This is not the Nepal we want for our children. We deserve better leaders who prioritize the well-being of all citizens, not just those who line their own pockets.

This is an insult to the hard-working taxpayers of Nepal who are forced to foot the bill for the lavish lifestyles of corrupt politicians like Lamichhane.

Finally, some good news! Lamichhane has been granted bail and can now defend himself against these false accusations.

Justice delayed is justice denied. This bail only shows how powerful and connected Lamichhane is, despite the overwhelming evidence against him.

It's easy to accuse someone, but it's much harder to prove their guilt. We should let the legal process take its course and avoid making premature judgments.
