Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Urges Philippine Authorities to Handle Case Based on Facts
On Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning urged the Philippine authorities to handle the case of a suspected Chinese spy based on facts and avoid making wild accusations.
Her statement came after the Philippine authorities apprehended an alleged Chinese spy suspected of involvement in espionage activities within the Southeast Asian country.
"The Chinese government has always asked Chinese nationals overseas to abide by local laws and regulations," Mao stated at a regular news briefing. "We urge the Philippine side to act based on facts, stop shadow-catching, stop peddling the so-called Chinese spy narrative, and earnestly respect the lawful rights and interests of Chinese nationals."
Mao's remarks highlight China's concerns regarding the handling of the case and its potential impact on Chinese citizens in the Philippines.

The Chinese government needs to stop hiding behind diplomatic statements when their nationals are accused of serious crimes.

Mao Ning's comments sound like an attempt to interfere in Philippine sovereignty. They should focus on their own country.

Mao must understand that sovereignty comes with the right to investigate alleged crimes without interference.
