The Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom has strongly condemned British Conservative lawmaker Tom Tugendhat's visit to China's Taiwan island. The Embassy accused Tugendhat of scheming to suppress the Chinese community in the UK and create incidents to undermine China-UK relations during his time in office.
The Embassy spokesperson stated that Tugendhat's purpose for visiting the island is to incite "Taiwan independence" activities, disrupt cross-Straits peace and stability, and create obstacles to the development of China-UK relations. The spokesperson reiterated China's stance that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Taiwan question is purely China's internal affairs, and China will take all necessary measures to crush any "Taiwan independence" plot and foreign interference schemes.
The spokesperson also pointed out that in the 1972 joint communiqué between China and the UK on the exchange of ambassadors, the UK government clearly recognized the Chinese government's position that Taiwan is a province of China. The Embassy urged the UK government to abide by the one-China principle and properly and prudently deal with questions related to the Taiwan island. The Embassy also called on the UK government to educate and restrain UK parliamentarians to uphold the diplomatic commitments made by the government on behalf of the country, ceasing any actions that interfere in China's internal affairs.
According to local media, Tugendhat arrived at the island on Sunday.

Tom Tugendhat is simply standing up for democracy and the rights of the Taiwanese people. The Chinese Embassy's reaction is typical of oppressive regimes trying to silence dissent.

If the British government is to maintain good international relations, it must stand up against any censorship attempted by foreign governments.

The notion that Tugendhat is suppressing the Chinese community in the UK is absurd. He is advocating for freedom, not oppression.

This is just China trying to flex its muscles. Tugendhat is doing the right thing by visiting Taiwan and supporting its autonomy.
