Chinese Military Reportedly Developing Specialized Barges for Potential Taiwan Landings

A foreign news report has captured the attention of Taiwanese media and military analysts by claiming that the Chinese mainland is unexpectedly working on a fleet of specialized barges designed for potential landings in Taiwan. These barges, which may significantly alter landing strategies, have reportedly been spotted at the Guangzhou Shipyard in southern China, with at least three to five under development. The vessels are equipped with unusually long road bridges extending from their front, measuring over 120 meters, which would allow them to access coastal roads beyond conventional beach areas.

According to the report, the introduction of these barges could change the landscape of amphibious landings in Taiwan, as only a few beaches are suitable and may face heavy defenses. The design of these barges permits them to operate on rocky or soft coastal areas, enabling the direct delivery of tanks and other vehicles onto more stable ground. While there is speculation regarding their civilian applications, Naval News suggests that their specifications lean more towards military use.

Taiwanese media outlets reacted swiftly to the report, noting the implications for national defense. Military experts in Taiwan discussed the possible advantages of the barges, with one former officer emphasizing that they could streamline the PLA's operations by avoiding the time-consuming process of clearing beach obstacles. However, doubts were also expressed regarding their effectiveness, particularly the risks they face while crossing the Taiwan Strait amid Taiwanese military surveillance.

Chinese military analysts acknowledged the potential dual-use nature of the barges, suggesting they may also be employed for humanitarian missions. Despite the speculative nature of their military purpose, some argue that the focus should be on promoting peaceful reunification rather than escalating tensions over military capacities. Concerns about the Chinese military's increasing readiness for amphibious operations reflect a heightened sense of vigilance in Taiwan regarding its national security.

It's important to remember that Taiwan is a sovereign nation. China has no right to interfere in its affairs.

We must not allow China to get away with this. This is a dangerous precedent that could have serious consequences for the entire world.
