China Responds to Biden's Farewell Address on US-China Relations
In response to US President Joe Biden's farewell foreign policy address, which mentioned China, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson urged the US to learn from the history of bilateral relations and work with China towards a shared future.
During his address, President Biden acknowledged the competitive nature of the US-China relationship but emphasized that it has been managed responsibly to avoid conflict. He also noted that China's economic growth has slowed, and its projected surpassing of the US economy is unlikely.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, acknowledged the ups and downs in the relationship over the past four years but highlighted its overall stability. He credited the strategic guidance of both heads of state, ongoing dialogue and cooperation, and the establishment of communication mechanisms for the positive outcomes.
Guo also emphasized China's unwavering commitment to its sovereignty, security, and development interests, and its firm response to any actions by the US that undermine these interests.
He recalled President Xi Jinping's insightful list of seven experiences and inspirations drawn from the history of US-China relations during their meeting in November 2024. These experiences include maintaining a correct strategic perception, aligning actions with words, treating each other as equals, respecting red lines and paramount principles, engaging in dialogue and cooperation, responding to the expectations of the people, and fulfilling the responsibilities of major countries.
The spokesperson concluded by urging the US to learn from these experiences and work with China towards a shared future.
