China Welcomes Ceasefire and Prisoner Exchange Agreement in Gaza
China has welcomed the establishment of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza, expressing hope that the agreement will be effectively implemented to achieve a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in the region. This statement was made by Guo Jiakun, spokesperson of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a question about China's view on the Israel-Hamas ceasefire accord.
The ceasefire accord between Israel and Hamas emerged on Wednesday and outlines a six-week initial ceasefire with the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. This comes after tens of thousands of people have been killed in the region. As part of the agreement, hostages taken by Hamas would be freed in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
At a news conference in Doha, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced that the ceasefire would take effect on Sunday. He also stated that negotiators are working with Israel and Hamas on steps to implement the agreement.
Since the outbreak of the conflict in Gaza, China has consistently called for an immediate ceasefire to stop the fighting, cool down the situation, protect civilians, and carry out humanitarian assistance. China has actively worked towards these goals and supports the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
China will continue to make positive efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza and assist in post-war reconstruction. The country sincerely hopes that all parties will take the ceasefire in Gaza as an opportunity to promote the easing of regional tensions. China will work together with the international community to make unremitting efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

Let's pray that this ceasefire holds and that we can finally see an end to the suffering in Gaza.

This ceasefire is a betrayal of the Israeli people. The government should not have given in to international pressure.

This ceasefire is just temporary. It won't bring lasting peace to the region.

This is a positive development. We need more dialogue and less violence in the Middle East.
