Tiger Urine for Sale in Sichuan Tourist Spot Raises Concerns
In a scenic attraction in Sichuan Province, China, "tiger urine" is being sold for 50 yuan ($6.87) per bottle, with claims of therapeutic benefits for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. However, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) expert has expressed concerns, stating that tiger urine is not a recognized traditional remedy and its efficacy remains unsubstantiated.
The tiger urine is reportedly collected directly from tigers at a wildlife park within the Bifeng Gorge Scenic Area, a nationally designated 5A-level tourist destination. Park personnel claim that the urine meets necessary qualifications and can be sold with a business license. However, the sales volume is reportedly low, with only one or two bottles sold on some days.
The scenic area had previously promoted "tiger urine" from Siberian tigers as a unique offering on its WeChat account in 2014. However, a TCM expert has questioned the claims of therapeutic benefits, stating that tiger urine lacks recognition as a traditional medicine and offers no proven benefits. The expert also noted that the scenic area is not qualified to sell such products, as all medications require approval from government regulatory authorities.
The sale of tiger urine raises concerns about the exploitation of animals and the potential for misleading health claims. It is important to note that there is no scientific evidence to support the claimed benefits of tiger urine, and its use should be approached with caution.

The park is clearly taking necessary precautions to collect the urine ethically. I don't see any harm in using it.

I trust traditional medicine more than modern pharmaceuticals. I'll definitely consider buying some tiger urine if it can help my condition.
