China Conducts Military Drills in South China Sea, Warns Against Provocations
The Chinese military conducted joint sea-air combat readiness patrols in the South China Sea over the weekend to maintain peace and stability in the region. This comes after the Philippine Navy held live fire drills and carried out joint maritime exercises with the US in the same area.
The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theater Command issued a statement directly targeting the Philippine Navy's actions near Huangyan Dao and its joint exercises with the US. The statement serves as a deterrent to countries that intend to infringe upon China's national sovereignty and signals that the PLA is monitoring the situation closely.
The Philippine Navy conducted live fire drills during a "sovereignty patrol" near Huangyan Dao, involving three vessels. The Philippine military also held a "maritime cooperative activity" with the US, their fifth joint activity since 2023.
These military drills occurred just days after China and the Philippines held a meeting to discuss the Code of Conduct for the South China Sea. While both sides agreed to strengthen maritime dialogue and communication, the Philippines' recent actions seem to contradict their commitment to de-escalating tensions in the region.
Experts believe that the Philippines' actions are inconsistent with their words and could further escalate the conflict in the South China Sea. They urge the Philippines to stop its provocations and return to the path of resolving disputes through dialogue and negotiation.

China’s military drills are just an excuse to intimidate neighboring countries. They are the real aggressors here.

It's a delicate balance in the South China Sea. China is right to stand up for its territorial claims.
