Donald Trump Inaugurated for Second Term as US President
Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025, becoming the second president in history to serve non-consecutive terms. The inauguration ceremony took place indoors at the Capitol Rotunda due to dangerously cold temperatures in Washington.
Trump and Vice President JD Vance arrived at the Capitol together in a limousine from the White House. The guest list included political leaders, former presidents, and influential billionaires, including Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. Former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama also attended the ceremony.
In his inaugural address, Trump outlined his plans for his second term, including signing more than 50 executive orders on his first day in office. He also expressed his desire to travel to China and find a solution to maintain TikTok in America.
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, who attended the ceremony as President Xi Jinping's special representative, met with Vance on Sunday. During the meeting, Han conveyed Xi's greetings to Trump and congratulated Vance on his election. He also emphasized the importance of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation between China and the US.
Experts believe that Trump will have more space to make decisions on policies about China in his second term due to limited pressure from the opposition Democrats in Congress. However, it remains to be seen to what extent the Trump administration can improve relations between the two countries.
