A team of investigators from South Korea's anti-corruption agency set out from Gwacheon at approximately 6:14 a.m. to apprehend the impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol. This operation followed a Seoul court's issuance of an arrest warrant on Tuesday, and the team comprised multiple vehicles anticipating a journey of at least 30 minutes to reach the presidential residence amid morning traffic.
For the execution of the arrest warrant, around 3,000 riot police were stationed at the presidential residence. The CIO's investigation into Yoon's actions has been ongoing, focusing on his imposition of martial law, which was enacted on December 3, 2024. Investigative agencies, including the National Office of Investigation and the defense ministry's investigative headquarters, are collaborating on this case. Following the passage of the impeachment motion on December 14, Yoon's authority has been suspended as the constitutional court deliberates his case, a process that could extend up to 180 days.
