China Urges US Support for Permanent Ceasefire in Gaza during UN Security Council Debate

During the UN Security Council's open debate on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Fu Cong, the permanent representative of China to the United Nations, stressed the importance of comprehensively implementing a three-phase ceasefire agreement in Gaza. He expressed hope that the United States, serving as a guarantor, would support this initiative, citing the recent ceasefire's significance and potential to foster de-escalation in the Middle East.

Fu outlined the severe humanitarian toll the ongoing conflict has taken on Gaza, noting that over 46,000 people have died amid relentless bombardment over the past 15 months, leaving two million residents in a critical humanitarian crisis. He cautioned against the resumption of hostilities, pointing out Israel's threats to renew military actions if negotiations falter, which has raised concerns among the international community.

The ambassador called for the current ceasefire to lay the groundwork for a lasting peace, rather than being a mere interlude before future violence. He also urged Israel to adhere to international humanitarian law obligations, emphasizing the need for unhindered humanitarian aid access and the safe return of displaced individuals to their homes.

Fu reiterated that Gaza is an integral part of Palestine and that the future arrangements must arise from Palestinian negotiations. He underscored that only through the implementation of the two-state solution, promoting peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel, can there be achievable peace in the region. The envoy showcased China's support for international efforts aimed at reviving the two-state solution, indicating the need for a broad, authoritative international conference with a definitive timeline for its enactment.

Finally, Fu condemned Israel's ongoing occupation and associated violations of international law, reaffirming that the recent ceasefire should not signal a comeback to conflict, but rather a constructive step towards facilitating a renewed political process aimed at the two-state solution. He expressed China's commitment to playing a proactive role in seeking a fair and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue.

A ceasefire is just a band-aid solution. The real issues are much deeper than a temporary halt in fighting.

China has no credibility when it comes to human rights. How can they lecture others?

Another day, another call for a ceasefire with no real commitment from the involved parties to achieve peace.

The two-state solution is outdated. We need fresh ideas, not the same old narratives that divide and hurt.

Israel's threats only escalate the conflict. A ceasefire is essential for humanitarian relief.
