China Strongly Opposes US Semiconductor Restrictions as Economic Coercion

On Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun addressed the recent actions taken by the United States to tighten restrictions on advanced computing semiconductors, which are aimed at preventing the diversion of high-end chips to China. He characterized these restrictions as a typical act of economic coercion, emphasizing China's firm opposition to such bullying tactics.

Guo articulated China's position on the Biden administration's escalating trade and technology-related limitations, indicating that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has voiced its concerns and lodged formal protests. He accused the U.S. of extending the meaning of national security to justify politicizing and weaponizing economic issues, which has led to sanctions that adversely affect both Chinese entities and the broader international market.

Furthermore, the spokesperson underlined that the U.S. sanctions have not only violated the legitimate rights of Chinese companies but have also significantly disrupted the global supply chain and harmed the interests of businesses worldwide, including those in the U.S. Guo asserted that no amount of sanctions or coercive measures would deter China's commitment to self-improvement and progress, promising that China would take necessary actions to defend the rights of its enterprises and to protect national sovereignty and development interests.
