Israel's Next Steps After Ceasefire with Hamas
In a video statement on Saturday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the nation regarding the ceasefire agreement with Hamas, set to take effect on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. local time. While acknowledging the agreement, Netanyahu emphasized Israel's readiness to resume hostilities if necessary.
"If we have to return to war, we will do so in new ways and with great force," Netanyahu declared. He cited the full backing of both outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden and incoming President Donald Trump for Israel's right to return to fighting should negotiations on the second phase of the agreement prove futile.
Netanyahu emphasized the temporary nature of the ceasefire, as confirmed by President Trump during their conversation on Wednesday evening. He outlined Israel's plans to maintain and even increase its forces along the Philadelphi Corridor bordering Egypt and Gaza. Additionally, Israeli forces will be deployed within the Gaza Strip, effectively sealing it off from all sides.
"We will not allow weapons to be smuggled in, nor allow our hostages to be smuggled out," Netanyahu stated resolutely. He confirmed that most of the 33 Israeli hostages are alive and are due to be released starting Sunday as part of the first phase of the agreement.

Words like "great force" only fuel more hatred and violence. Israel needs a different approach, not more weapons.

This ceasefire is just a smokescreen; Netanyahu always finds a way to escalate tensions.

Real leaders pursue dialogue, not threats. Netanyahu’s approach is only going to escalate the situation further.
