On Monday morning, Israel freed a total of 90 Palestinian prisoners from Ofer prison, situated to the west of Ramallah in the West Bank. This move occurred just hours after three Israeli hostages returned to their home after being held by Hamas in Gaza.
Local Palestinian sources and eyewitnesses reported that the release involved multiple buses leaving Ofer prison at 1:00 a.m. local time, following the resolution of some verification issues regarding the list of prisoners. The Hamas-affiliated Prisoners' Media Office confirmed this release process was initiated as an agreement on the names of the prisoners was achieved.
Additionally, the International Committee of the Red Cross assisted in transporting the newly released prisoners, who included both men and women, to areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority. As the buses arrived, hundreds of Palestinians, including the families of the prisoners, gathered near the prison to celebrate their return.
However, the atmosphere around the prison turned tense as several journalists and Palestinian citizens faced assaults by Israeli forces during this time, with tear gas used to disperse the crowd. Notably, the group of released prisoners included women from East Jerusalem and minors below the age of 18. This release is linked to a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas that was implemented the previous day.

Let’s focus on fostering hope and avenues for peace rather than perpetuating a cycle of violence.

Releasing prisoners is just another move to legitimize terror. What about the victims of these criminals?

Every released prisoner represents a life returned to their family. It's a step toward healing broken bonds.
