Iranian Singer Tataloo Sentenced to Death on Appeal
Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, known by his stage name Tataloo, has been sentenced to death by an Iranian court on appeal. The popular singer was initially convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to five years in prison. However, the prosecutor objected to the sentence, leading to a retrial. In the retrial, Tataloo was sentenced to death for insulting the Prophet Muhammad.
Tataloo, a 37-year-old underground musician, had been living in Istanbul since 2018. He was arrested by Turkish police and handed over to Iranian authorities in December 2023. He has been detained in Iran ever since.
In addition to the blasphemy charge, Tataloo has also been sentenced to 10 years for promoting prostitution and charged with disseminating propaganda against the Islamic Republic and publishing obscene content.
The heavily tattooed singer, known for his blend of rap, pop, and R&B, was previously seen as a way to reach out to young, liberal-minded Iranians. He even met with the ultra-conservative Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi in 2017.
The death sentence against Tataloo is not final and can be appealed.

This only shows how oppressive the Iranian regime is. They fear artists and intellectuals.

There are laws for a reason; they apply to everyone. Tataloo's arrogance led him to this fate.

Death penalty for free speech? What kind of society are we living in? This is a huge step backward!
