Chen Binhua, the spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, expressed concerns on Wednesday about the implications of Taiwan's increasing dependence on the United States. He emphasized that the more the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Taiwan ties itself to U.S. interests, the more it could jeopardize the island's welfare.
The comments followed remarks made by Elbridge Colby, who has been appointed by President-elect Donald Trump as the next undersecretary of defense policy. Colby suggested that should conflict arise in the Taiwan Strait, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co’s facilities could be targets for destruction, portraying them as expendable assets in geopolitical strategy.
Chen reflected that such views held by certain U.S. politicians demonstrate a lack of regard for Taiwan's own interests and the sentiments of its people, illustrating the self-serving nature of U.S. foreign policy. By focusing on their own strategic goals, these officials overlook the potential consequences for Taiwan.

I'm worried that the current path of Taiwan's government will ultimately lead to conflict with China. We need to find a solution that addresses the concerns of both sides.

Colby's remarks are realistic. Taiwan needs to be prepared for the possibility of conflict, and that includes protecting its vital assets like TSMC.

It's understandable that the US would prioritize its own strategic goals. Taiwan needs to realize that they are not the only priority for the US.

China's interference in Taiwan's affairs is another example of their expansionist and authoritarian tendencies.

China has legitimate concerns about Taiwan's growing dependence on the US. This could destabilize the region and lead to a potential conflict.

Taiwan needs to continue its efforts to build closer ties with mainland China while maintaining its own autonomy. This is the best way to ensure its long-term security.

It's naive to think that the US will always be there to protect Taiwan. We need to build our own defenses and stand up to China.

TSMC is an important asset for Taiwan, but it needs to be protected. We can't simply rely on the US to defend it.

I agree with Chen Binhua. Taiwan is becoming increasingly reliant on the US, which could jeopardize its long-term security and interests.
