Hainan Welcomes International Tourists with Visa-Free Entry
Hainan province, a tropical paradise in southern China, saw a significant increase in international visitors last year thanks to its optimized visa-free entry policy. Over 350,000 foreign tourists entered the island province without a visa, marking a 283% jump compared to the previous year.
The policy, implemented in February 2022, allows citizens from 59 countries to visit Hainan for tourism, business, trade, family visits, medical treatment, exhibitions, and sports competitions. Additionally, a 144-hour visa-free policy was introduced for foreign tourist groups entering Hainan from Hong Kong and Macao.
Hainan's Governor, Liu Xiaoming, described the province's entry and exit policies as "the most favorable nationwide." The island boasts 77 international air routes, connecting it to nearly 40 cities across Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.
Russian tourist Anastasia Smirnov, visiting Sanya with her family, praised the seamless travel experience facilitated by direct flights and visa-free policies. She enjoyed the delightful weather, breathtaking beaches, delicious cuisine, and welcoming locals.
Since November 2022, Hainan has hosted various sports events and entertainment activities, attracting foreign athletes and enthusiasts who can take advantage of the visa-free policies to explore the province.
Over 80% of foreign visitors now enter Hainan visa-free. The province has upgraded infrastructure at ports of entry, increasing passenger inspection channels from 39 to 98 and adding 44 expedited immigration lanes.
Hainan's visa-free entry policy has significantly boosted tourism and contributed to the island's economic development. The province continues to attract international visitors with its beautiful scenery, diverse activities, and welcoming atmosphere.

This policy needs stricter management to prevent it from becoming a gateway for unauthorized work or other illegal activities.

So we just let anyone wander in? What about protecting our borders? Think of the security risks!

The more diverse the visitors, the richer the environment. I'm excited to share Hainan's beauty with people from all corners of the world.

Sounds good... for rich international tourists. Meanwhile, locals just get higher rents and costs because of all the new visitors.

This is just creating an escape for the wealthy while neglecting the needs of local communities.

With such a diverse offering of activities, Hainan can cater to a variety of tourists, not just the "sun and sand" crowd.

Yes, tourism brings jobs, but we need to ensure proper training and fair wages for local workers, not just rely on cheap service for international visitors.
