Beijing to Develop Innovative Tourism Paradigms and Expand Tourist Routes by 2025

During the recent session of the 16th Beijing Municipal People's Congress, officials announced plans to refresh the city's tourism landscape by integrating sports and film into the tourism sector. The government aims to create 100 new "Beijing City Walk" routes by 2025 that will feature connections to prominent sporting events and film productions.

Zhang Jing, a representative from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, noted that traditional industrial tourism has primarily focused on tours of historic sites like the 798 Art Zone and Shougang Park. In contrast, the new approach will highlight high-tech attractions such as the Xiaomi automotive factory and Robot World, demonstrating the city's modern industrial landscape.

These new tourist routes will emphasize multi-industry integration, offering visitors a more tailored experience with a wide variety of options. In recent years, Beijing has worked to refresh its tourism offerings, enticing both domestic and international travelers, which has led to a significant upward trend in visitor numbers. According to recent data, in 2024, the city recorded 3.942 million inbound tourists, representing a staggering 186.8 percent increase from the previous year.

As a local, I think promoting high-tech sites is a great way to educate visitors on our advancements!

These new routes won't appeal to everyone and risk alienating traditional tourists.

Instead of creating new routes, the city should focus on the quality of service in existing attractions.

Focusing on high-tech attractions seems to ignore the essence of what makes Beijing unique—its history and culture.

Are these plans even considering the environmental impact of increased tourist traffic?
