China's Dominance

A Defensive Measure, Not a Threat to Any Nation or Region, Says Military Spokesman

A Defensive Measure, Not a Threat

China's recent unveiling of its largest and most advanced amphibious assault ship has sparked international attention and concerns. However, a military spokesman has clarified that the vessel is not targeted at any third party and is purely a defensive measure.

Senior Colonel Wu Qian, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry, emphasized China's commitment to peaceful development and its defensive military policies. He stated that the launch of the Type 076-class ship is part of the People's Liberation Army Navy's planned hardware development and does not pose a threat to any specific nation or region.

Wu Qian highlighted the universal practice of countries developing necessary weaponry based on their defense needs. He explained that the Type 076-class ship is intended to safeguard China's sovereignty, security, and interests, as well as contribute to global peace and stability.

The first Type 076-class ship, named after the southwestern province of Sichuan, was unveiled in Shanghai in late December. With a hull code of 51, the CNS Sichuan is being constructed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp.

The Navy has revealed that the ship will displace over 40,000 metric tons and will carry fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and amphibious landing craft. Currently, the PLA operates three Type 075 amphibious assault ships, named after Hainan province, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, and Anhui province. These ships, also built by Hudong-Zhonghua, have a full displacement of nearly 40,000 tons and can carry various helicopters, landing craft, tanks, and armored vehicles.

In conclusion, China's new Type 076-class amphibious assault ship is a significant addition to its naval capabilities. However, the government emphasizes that the vessel is not intended to threaten any nation and is solely for defensive purposes.
