Bayer Leverkusen secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, thanks to a stellar performance by Florian Wirtz. The German international scored twice and set up another goal, propelling Leverkusen to second place in the Bundesliga table.
Leverkusen faced an early setback when Martin Terrier suffered an ankle injury and had to be substituted after nine minutes. However, Wirtz stepped up to take control of the match. In the 32nd minute, he received a pass from Granit Xhaka outside the box, skillfully evaded Ko Itakura, and slotted the ball home.
Wirtz doubled Leverkusen's lead in the 62nd minute with a well-taken penalty, bringing his league tally to nine goals. He then turned provider in the 74th minute, setting up Patrik Schick for the Czech's 12th league goal of the season.
With the victory, Leverkusen moved to 41 points, four behind leaders Bayern Munich, who defeated VfL Wolfsburg 3-2. Leverkusen will now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they will face Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Happy for Leverkusen, but not convinced they can challenge Bayern for the title.

Penalty gifted Wirtz his second goal. Can't celebrate a win on a controversial call.
