Thousands of people gathered in central London on Saturday, January 18th, to participate in a pro-Palestinian rally. The event took place on the eve of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Over 70 people were arrested, primarily for allegedly breaching the authorized perimeter for the protest near key government buildings.
The ceasefire, which came into effect on Sunday morning, involved the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas and Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. Additionally, it stipulated Israeli withdrawal from densely populated areas of Gaza and an increase in humanitarian aid deliveries to the war-ravaged region.
Sophie Mason, a regular attendee of pro-Palestinian demonstrations in London, expressed her hope for the truce. "We desperately want to be optimistic," she said. "And so we need to be out on the streets in order to make sure the ceasefire holds.

It’s important to show solidarity! We need to keep pressure on governments to help.

If they really cared about humanitarian aid, they’d direct their energy towards effective channels instead of protests.

I admire those who gathered peacefully to voice their support for Palestine.

All we need is peace, not more protests that break the law. Enough is enough!

There are better ways to show compassion than protesting in the streets. Let's focus on solutions.
