Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, the second-seeded duo, advanced to the third round of the Australian Open women's doubles with a three-set victory over Maia Lumsden and Anna Siskova. The 2023 US Open champions and 2024 Wimbledon finalists dominated the match, hitting 30 winners to their opponents' 14 and winning more points on second serve.
Leylah Fernandez, on the other hand, was eliminated from singles competition after falling to third-seeded American Coco Gauff in the third round. Fernandez remains in doubles contention with Ukrainian partner Nadiia Kichenok, set to face Camilla Rosatello and Jaqueline Cristian in the second round.
Dabrowski and Routliffe will next face the winner of the match between Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund, and Lucia Bronzetti and Anhelina Kalinina. Dabrowski, a 32-year-old Canadian, won the Australian Open mixed doubles crown with Mate Pavic in 2018 and is currently ranked No. 3 in the world in women's doubles. She recently revealed that she underwent breast cancer treatment last year.

Fernandez once showed promise; now she's just another player who can't step up her game when it counts.

Advanced to the third round – big deal. Everyone's just looking for a feel-good story.
