Rachel Homan, Brad Jacobs, and Matt Dunstone, all representing Canada, remained undefeated after Thursday's matches at the Grand Slam of Curling's WFG Masters, securing their spots in Saturday's quarterfinals.
Homan defeated her rival Kerri Einarson 6-2 in the women's event, while Jacobs and Dunstone emerged victorious against Mike McEwen (7-4) and Rylan Kleiter (7-1) respectively in the men's competition.
Reigning Canadian men's champion Brad Gushue suffered his third consecutive loss, falling 9-4 to Scotland's Ryan Whyte.
This Grand Slam event, with a prize purse of $400,000, serves as a warm-up for many Canadian teams before the national championships in March.
In other matches, Sweden's Anna Hasselborg and South Korea's Eun-jung Kim joined Homan at 3-0 with victories. Canada's Danielle Inglis and Jordan McDonald also secured wins, while John Epping edged out Corey Dropkin in an extra end.
On Friday, Marc Muskatewitz of Germany will face Matt Dunstone, while Mike McEwen needs a win over Bruce Mouat of Scotland to avoid elimination. Brad Jacobs will take on Sweden's Niklas Edin, and Kerri Einarson will conclude the preliminary round against Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa.

The Grand Slam is overrated. It doesn't compare to the intensity of the national championships.

Homan's win against Einarson was a fluke. Einarson should have taken that game easily.

Jacobs is still among the top players; his experience shines in competitive matches like this.

Honestly, Dunstone's victory didn't showcase any real talent. It was more about luck than skill.

Can we get some fresh faces in the competition? The same names are getting boring.
