During a recent Big Bash League match at the Gabba, an electrical fire resulted in a temporary halt of play between the Brisbane Heat and the Hobart Hurricanes. The fire broke out in an entertainment area designed for a DJ just after the fourth over of Hobart's innings, prompting umpires to pause the game as Gabba staff worked to manage the situation with fire extinguishing equipment.
Reports indicate that multiple fans in the sold-out stadium had to be evacuated from the vicinity of the fire, which produced significant smoke and was located directly above one of the scoreboards. Fortunately for the Hobart team, they were able to continue and clinched the victory with a dramatic six, hitting the finite score of 6-201. The Gabba has seen its share of unusual interruptions in the past, including an AFL match blackout in March 2023 and another fire incident during a game in 2015.

Glad the fire didn't disrupt the match for too long. Great to see Hobart secure a win after the delay. 🏏🎉

Glad everyone is safe, but this is just ridiculous. The Gabba needs to seriously upgrade its safety protocols. 😡

This is why I avoid going to large-scale events. Too much risk! 😖
