Wu Jingyi's dog, Lucky, is a 5-year-old female border collie who works as a therapy dog in Shanghai. Lucky's job is to help people relax and feel better. She works with disadvantaged groups, special care patients in nursing homes, people in schools, and hospitals.
Lucky's owner, Wu Jingyi, adopted her from a stray dog shelter in early 2020. She learned about the Paw for Heal (PFH) program through a WeChat group and decided to train Lucky to become a therapy dog.
PFH is a volunteer therapy dog program founded by pet behavior expert Wu Qi in 2012. The program aims to train family pets to provide physical and emotional assistance to people.
Lucky's work is important because it helps people who are struggling with mental illnesses, autism, or cognitive impairments. She provides them with companionship and support, which can make a big difference in their lives.

I can't believe this is an actual program. Dogs should stay as pets, not therapists.

So, we’re relying on dogs to handle human emotional issues now? That’s concerning.

What happens if Lucky isn’t in the mood? Does that mean her 'therapy' stops for the day?

While I love dogs, I don't think they should be in nursing homes or hospitals. It could be unhygienic.

I really question the effectiveness of therapy dogs like Lucky. What does a dog really know about mental health?

I doubt Lucky can really contribute to anyone's recovery. It's not practical.
