Customs officers in Jiangsu Province seize crocodile head from passenger
During a routine inspection of inbound flights at Nanjing Lukou International Airport on December 30, 2024, customs officers in Jiangsu Province identified an anomaly in a passenger's luggage through X-ray scanning. The passenger was attempting to enter the country through the green channel.
Further examination revealed that the passenger was carrying a crocodile head weighing approximately 0.85 kilograms. This discovery is significant because all species of the order Crocodyliformes are protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
As a result of the seizure, the crocodile head has been withheld by customs in accordance with regulations. It is important to remember that it is prohibited to trade, carry, or mail endangered species and their products into or out of the country. The only exception is for individuals who lawfully possess certificates of permissible import and export issued by national import and export management agencies for endangered species.
